\nHow we buried you I don\u2019t remember,
\nhow the casket was lowered into the hole
\nmy eyes don’t know.
\nIt was a summer day. Those who stood there…
\nI don’t recall,
\nmaterial
\nfor dreams now.
\nSince then, no matter whom
\nI bury, I bury you. Your tomb,
\nyour stone, with its laconic dates,
\nstands at attention, like that soldier
\nforgotten by eternity.
\nThe forest makes a swirl
\nonly to fall back before
\nthe disorderly order.
\nAbove, an indigo slope
\npiles up just out of view.
\nBut down here? Wild turkeys, a whole slew.
\nA sign that I\u2019m not talking to myself?
\nSo many summers have passed,
\nand this last
\ndoesn\u2019t mean the strange dialogue’s through.
