Tatiana Retivov was born in New York to Russian émigré parents. She studied English and French literature at the University of Montana, where she received her B.A. In 1981, she received an M.A. in Slavic Languages and Literature from the University of Michigan. Tatiana lived in Ukraine for over 20 years. She initially arrived to Ukraine as an interpreter for an American company. Upon arriving in Ukraine, she engaged in literary translation and writing. Tatiana was the curator of a literary salon in Kyiv; she also established a publishing house, www.kayalapublishing.com that publishes prose, poetry, and non-fiction in Ukraine.
